How to Solve Uneven Cooling Issues

When it comes to your home’s A/C system, you may notice that some rooms are colder than others when your system is turned on. This is a common problem for most larger homes and can be quite a hassle trying to figure out the problem. It can also be an uncomfortable way to live, which is just one of the reasons why it’s important to have it resolved.

If you’re in need of expert A/C repair services, our professionals at Happy Home Heating & Cooling are just a phone call away–with fast and affordable services that you can rely on any time of the day and night. If you can relate to this problem, take a look at what might be causing uneven cooling issues and what you can do to resolve them.

Dirty Air Filters

One of the most common problems that we see with uneven cooling issues is a dirty A/C filter. A/C filters help to block out harmful contaminants from entering your A/C system but once clogged, they can cause some serious airflow issues. Make sure that you are checking your A/C filters every 30 days to see if they need replacing.

Blocked Registers

If the registers in your home have become blocked by shelving, clutter, or other items, this could be the quick and easy fix you need for that room. These air registers deliver the cold air to each room and once covered, they are not able to fill the room. Do a quick check on each room’s air registers to ensure that they are free of any clutter.

Ductwork Leaks

One of the more invasive checks is making sure that there are no problems with your A/C system ductwork. Ductwork can develop tears and rips, especially if you have people in and around the ductwork. Inspect your ductwork in your attic for any signs of damage to rule this one out and possibly look at having an air duct cleaning job done.

Clean Return Vents

Return vents are vents that suck air in to bring air through your filter and into the A/C system. Much like the filter, your return vents are the first line of defense for dirt and pet hair. Check your return vents for any dirt build-up and clean if necessary.

Wrong Size Unit

Last but not least, you should have your A/C unit checked out by a professional to see if it is undersized for your home. There are times where an A/C unit will be replaced by a unit that is overworked, which means that it cannot provide you the proper airflow that you need. If you are not able to afford a new larger unit, you can look at solving the problem with a mini-split ductless system.
